Birth & childhood
Born on December 7th of 1989 in Cayenne (French Guiana), Kevin is the 1st child of Sylène and Thierry Séraphin. He starts practicing sport playing soccer.
After few years playing soccer, Kevin was bitten by the basketball bug at the age of 15. Being already bigger than most of the kids of his age, the game starts being a passion that will later take him to a career.
Moving to Metropolitan France
Landing in France in 2005, Kevin joins the Poitiers Basket 86’s training center (2005-2006). He then transfers to Cholet Basket’s club Junior team. He will dedicate the full summer to extra personal training to keep on his fast-track game learning.
Starting as a Pro player
Starting first season as a pro at 18, Kevin progressively got some playing time, from 1 game only in 1st season to 8 min average in 2008-2009, where he plays for both pro team and Junior.
U20 French National team & step-up
Kevin has the great honnor of wearing the jersey of the French National Team. U20 French National team ends up 2nd in 2009 EuroCup in Greece. Kevin is elected in the tournament team best starting 5, together with his team mate Antoine Diot. Back in Cholet, coach Erman Kunter gives him more responsibilities, and he becomes a key player in the team.
Hoop Summit 2009 - Gateway to the USA
Invited to be part of the World Team at the annual Hoop Summit in Portland, Kevin Séraphin step-up by scoring 9 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and blocking 4 shots to help his team beat the USA for the first time in eleven years (97-89). A first hint for NBA scouts to watch the french center closely.
Title and NBA draft
In 2010, Kevin won with Cholet’s the Title in the French Basketball league, recording impactful stats. After being supervised by NBA scouts, Kevin decides to go to the draft. The Chicago Bulls picked him on 1st round,17th position, and trade him to the Washington Wizards. Past years of intense work and dedication end up paying back for Kevin, now part of the best league in the world.
Beginning at the Wizards
Starting the same year as franchise player John Wall, Kevin starts under Coach Flip Saunders. Once his successor Randy Wittman is nominated, his average playing time goes increasing. This is when Kevin starts to really enjoy the most competitive league worldwide.
French National team
After his rookie year, 20 years old Kevin starts for 1st time with the National Team in 2011 for the Lithuania Eurobasket. Playing together with Tony Parker, Nicolas Batum and Boris Diaw, they end up winning the silver medal, losing the final Vs Spain. A year later, Kevin will also be part of the French National Team at London’s Olympics.
During the lock out, Kevin went playing in the spanish Liga ACB for Saski Baskonia Vitoria until the situation ends in the NBA. He will be back in DC at the beginning of the winter. After 326 games for the Washington Wizards, Kevin decides to leave at the end of his contract.
A new challenge in the big apple
At the summer of 2015, Kevin wants a new challenge. After a long and intense summer preparation, he signs a 1 year contract with the mythical franchise of New York : the Knicks. Together with Carmelo Anthony, and Kristaps Porzingis, Kevin wears proudly the NY jersey to help the Knicks recover from a tough 2014 – 2015 season (17 wins only)
